Guerilla Weddings

Times are tough, money is tight. Did anybody consider the guerilla wedding? Well, probably not, because not too many people know what it is. It is a pretty simple idea; use a public space to hold your wedding with the least amount of people involved so you do not get in trouble.

Why would you get in trouble? Well there are a few reasons. First of all, you are getting married in a public space without a license. That is a misdemeanor and is punishable by fines and jail time. Usually just fines. Second, you didn’t invite the family because you have to keep the guerilla wedding low key. You do not want to attract too much attention to your event in order to keep the law officials away from your ceremony.

This is an alternative to the couple that does not have enough money to pull off the most simplest of weddings. You need a minister of some sort and one witness to actually be married in this fashion. Is it glamorous? No. Is cheap? Yes. However, it leaves a lot to be desired for a wedding ceremony.

Nobody can actually condone this form of wedding, because it is technically breaking the law. If a couple needs to be married this quickly and in this fashion, then time may be the best alternative to make sure that this is actually the best course of action.

To each their own, but I have never heard a bride actually say that they want their wedding day to be overcast by the possibility of having the police take the newlyweds into custody. If money is truly the issue, saving it may be the answer. There really is no reason to rush into something as sacramental as marriage just to save some money. Planning could be more important than the spontaneous event of a guerilla wedding.

You may not be in the position to obtain a loan for your wedding day, but  risking an arrest may not be the answer to your wedding day either. Take the time to realize what the two of you want and need to fulfill your vows.

Eloping is an alternative to a guerilla wedding, but will require a little bit of money. Just like the guerilla wedding, no family members are usually involved. This may be your goal, and probably is a better bet. If money is the concern, it may not be time to get married.
